Inside The Game

  • Both teams appeared to be hot on offense, with goals coming left and right. ACU had goals from four different players, including Blake Smith, who also had two assists in the quarter as well.
  • The defense allowed five goals, which was not ideal, but they were playing against a very talented USD offense.
  • After the first quarter, the score was 5-4 USD.
  • ACU really found its footing in the second quarter, keeping the tempo on offense and slowing USD down on defense.
  • Tristan Watters had two goals to open the quarter which would match USD's entire offense.
  • The score was 8-7 ACU going into halftime.
  • In the third quarter, ACU seemed to have slowed down on both sides of the ball. What seemed like a close game up to this point was not the case this quarter.
  • The USD offense was finding holes in the defense and ACU couldn't get it started on offense with only one goal coming from Kellen Haigh of a pass from Gavin Waddell
  • The score was 11-9 USD after the third quarter.
  • Going into the fourth quarter, Carson Brown would end up with two of the team's four goals to make his total three on the day.
  • The defense, led by Ryan Leonard looked sharp, and Ryan had four caused turnovers to show for it.
  • At the end of regulation, the score was tied at 13.
  • After losing multiple overtime games this season, the guys were determined to rewrite the narrative, and they did with a great offensive possession ending in a Tristan Watters goal for the Firestorm's second league win to advance to 2-1 and secure a spot on the SLC playoffs.
