ACU Splits With Benedictine Mesa

Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian and Benedictine Mesa split a Friday doubleheader, with the Redhawks taking game one 4-3 before the Firestorm answered with a thrilling 10-8 victory in game two. The split moves Arizona Christian to 26-21 overall, while Benedictine Mesa stands at 22-24 after an action-packed day at Gene Autry Park.

Inside Game One
  • In the opener, Benedictine Mesa used timely hitting and a complete-game effort from Cody Campbell to edge Arizona Christian 4-3. 
  • The Redhawks scored in four separate innings, including an RBI single from Ben Schnurman in the first and a solo home run by Tyler Jackson in the fourth. 
  • ACU rallied in the sixth inning when Tyson Schertenleib delivered a two-run double and later scored the tying run, but Benedictine Mesa answered immediately in the bottom half on Javier Rochin's RBI infield single. 
  • Campbell scattered seven hits over nine innings to earn the win, while Tyson Kilbreath took the hard-luck loss despite allowing just four runs over six innings.
  • ACU lost the game, 4-3. 

Inside Game Two
  • The Firestorm bounced back in game two behind an explosive offense and late clutch hitting. 
  • ACU built an early lead with a five-run third inning highlighted by RBI hits from Luke Zuromski, Noah Manasan, and Zach Blair
  • Blair starred at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBI, including a key RBI triple in the eighth inning. 
  • Marcellus Cueva added two hits and two RBI, while Andrew Ivy drove in two runs.
  • Benedictine Mesa stormed back with a five-run sixth inning to erase an 8-3 deficit and tie the game at 8-8. 
  • Ben Schnurman's two-run double was the big blow during the rally. 
  • But ACU responded in the eighth, scoring twice to regain control. 
  • David Gordon II then shut the door with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts to earn the save. 
  • ACU won the game, 10-8.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will play against Benedictine Mesa in another doubleheader in Mesa, AZ starting 11am.
