ACU Loses Two Against Benedictine Mesa

Glendale, Ariz. – Despite a pair of setbacks in Saturday's doubleheader, Arizona Christian showed resilience and offensive firepower throughout the day against Benedictine Mesa.

Inside Game One
  • The Firestorm dropped the opener 10-7 in a hard-fought contest after carrying a late lead into the eighth inning. 
  • ACU struck first in the third when Luke Zuromski launched a three-run homer, scoring Tyson Schertenleib and Andrew Ivy to build an early advantage.
  • Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, the Firestorm responded with a four-run rally to move back in front. 
  • Marcellus Cueva delivered a two-run double, and Gavin Murphy followed with a two-run double of his own to give Arizona Christian a 7-4 lead.
  • Zuromski paced the offense by going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Kolten Lindstrom added two hits. 
  • Murphy and Cueva each drove in two runs as the Firestorm totaled 10 hits in game one.
  • ACU lost the game, 10-7. 

Inside Game Two
  • In Game Two, ACU again battled throughout the afternoon before falling 12-7. 
  • The Firestorm answered an early deficit with two runs in the second inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues and an RBI double from Andrew Ivy.
  • ACU's biggest moment came in the sixth when Ivy crushed a grand slam to bring the Firestorm within three runs and swing momentum back their direction. 
  • Ivy finished 2-for-5 with five RBIs in the nightcap.
  • Kaden Clute added two hits and an RBI, while Noah Manasan collected two hits as ACU again finished with 10 hits offensively.
  • ACU lost the game, 12-7.

Up Next
On Tuesday, the Firestorm will celebrate its seniors in their last regular season home game as they face Justice University at 7pm.
