Inside Game One

  • That slim advantage held for much of the game thanks to a dominant pitching performance from Casey Farrell.

  • ACU added insurance in the seventh when Marcellus Cueva singled home Jacob Solis to make it 2-0.
  • The Firestorm then broke the game open in the eighth as Joey Genduso lined a two-run single, extending the lead to 4-0.
  • Two more runs crossed in the ninth. Cueva scored on a wild pitch, and Andrew Ivy added a sacrifice fly to give ACU a commanding 6-0 cushion.
  • OUAZ (36-15) avoided the shutout in the bottom of the ninth when Matthew Carter ripped a two-run double, but the rally ended there.
  • Genduso led the Firestorm offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day and two RBIs, while Cueva finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Luke Zuromski also added two hits.
  • For OUAZ, Carter went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Trevor Lesperance and Chaz Clemons each collected two hits.
  • ACU totaled 10 hits and played strong situational baseball with three sacrifice plays, advancing in the conference tournament with the upset win over the top-seeded Spirit.
