Warriors Spoil Firestorm’s Late Comeback

Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian mounted a late push but came up just short in a 5-4 loss to Nelson University (AZ) on Friday evening at ACU Baseball Field. Noah Manasan led the Firestorm with two hits and an RBI, while Joey Genduso added two RBIs. Tyson Kilbreath took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs over five innings.

  • ACU struck first in the third inning when Joey Genduso delivered a two-run double to left field, scoring Noah Manasan and Aaron Newcomb to give the Firestorm an early 2-0 advantage.
  • Nelson responded in the fourth inning with a momentum-shifting rally. 
  • The Warriors put the visitors on the board with a solo home run before Josue Franco followed with a two-RBI double to flip the score and give Nelson a 3-2 lead.
  • Nelson added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings, using a sacrifice fly and a solo home run to extend the lead to 5-2.
  • ACU made things interesting in the ninth inning. 
  • Colton Horner drove in a run with a pinch-hit RBI single, and Noah Manasan followed with an RBI knock up the middle to cut the deficit to one. 
  • However, Nelson closer Esteban Acev was able to record the final out and secure the save, stranding the tying run.
  • ACU lost the game, 4-5.
