Box Score Phoenix, AZ- With a team season high of 15 blocks, Arizona Christian cruised past William Jessup 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-22) on Thursday night. Senior Debbie White led the block party with seven blocks while the Firestorm hit .306 as a team.
The first ten points of the match resulted in four ties including at 5-5. But White unleashed a kill followed up with a block alongside Senior Kinsey Pease to give the Firestorm (12-10, 3-6 GSAC) a 7-5 cushion. ACU actually closed out the set on 20-6 run from the 5-5 tie.
ACU hit a whopping .379 in the first set. White hit an impressive .750 with Junior Jackie Stein putting away five kills in the opening set.
Senior Toria Siemens owned the beginning of the second set as she recorded a kill and two blocks in the first four points. The Firestorm jumped out to a 13-2 edge and eased their way to a set win without allowing a tie.
Like the first set, Arizona Christian committed only two hitting errors in the second set.
The Warriors (18-10, 3-6 GSAC) tried to make a match of the evening as they grabbed a 10-9 lead in the third set. However, Junior Breanna Scott had other ideas as she hammered out a kill for the 10-10 tie. Scott then capped the 6-0 run with two straight solo blocks and a kill for the 15-10 advantage. Senior Alli Lemnitzer went solo for a WJU attack denial to push ACU to match point.
When a ball made it past the ACU block, Sophomore Delaney Harris and Scott came through as they both accounted for ten digs.
Stein delivered 10 kills on the night. Scott and Lemnitzer both had eight kills. White ended her night with seven kills without an error (.583). Pease gave out 31 assists.
Head Coach Micah Briscoe offered these thoughts, "Our girls came out in full force tonight eager to play. We were hungry for redemption from our earlier loss to them in the season and fought to earn this win. Our defense notched a match high of 15 total blocks and our defense behind the block was just as consistent. Our setter Kinsey did a great job moving the ball around leading a well balanced offensive charge that created opportunities for our hitters who hit .306 on the night. We have been using adversity as an opportunity and tonight we got to see the pay off."
With the win, Arizona Christian moved into a three way tie for the final two GSAC playoff spots.
On Saturday, the Firestorm will host Menlo at the earlier than normal start time of 2:00 pm in Fultz Memorial Gym.
