Good First Half Against Sun Devils

Tempe, AZ- In exhibition action on Friday night, Arizona Christian put together a good first half against NCAA DI Arizona State.  But ACU could not slow ASU in the second half as the game ended 115-69 in favor of the Sun Devils.  Senior Matt Willkomm accounted for 21 points- a Firestorm team high.

The Sun Devils scored first but the Firestorm scored the next four points- layups by Sophomore Lawrence Combs and Freshman Johannes Menzel- for the brief 4-2 lead.  After a tie, Combs converted two points again and moved ACU ahead 6-4.

But back-to-back three pointers by Arizona State gave ASU the lead for the rest of the night.

Despite falling behind by as many as 14 points, Arizona Christian climbed back within seven points at three different spots in the opening 20 minutes.  By the half, the score was 53-40 ASU.

Willkomm scored 10 of his 21 points in the first half.

After the break, the Sun Devils attacked with the three pointer and pulled away from the Firestorm.  In the end, ASU made 18 three pointers in the contest.

Junior Callum Lawson and Senior Patson Siame followed Willkomm with 12 points.  Freshman Isaiah Walton added 10 points.

On Tuesday, the Firestorm will return to countable games when they host SAGU-American Indian University in Fultz Memorial Gym at 7:30 pm.
