Phoenix, AZ – The Firestorm Track & Field program traveled just down the road from campus to Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday to compete against a mix of GSAC, Division One and Junior College competition.  This was a two-day meet to facilitate the first Heptathlon of the season for the Firestorm heptathletes.

Heptathlon
Top performer of the meet was senior Lucille Lovelace who used a strong second day performance to win the Heptathlon.  Lovelace was in third place after Day One, and she entered the final event of the competition in second place, but her 800 time of 2:41.33 was enough to move her to victory in the end.  Lovelace was joined by teammates Cheney Gomez, and first-time participant Jocelyn Odiott.  The pair finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Sprints & Jumps
For the second week in a row the women's 4x100 team broke the program record.  A team of Annabel Johnson, Rylan Rhodes, India Green, and Georgia Gomez ran a time of 49.13 which bested the time from just a week ago.  Later in the day Green ran a new personal best in the 200 of 26.14, and Rhodes had a season best long jump of 17' 6.25".

Middle Distance
Freshman Lucy Mangini just dipped under the 2:40 mark in the 800 with a time of 2:39.76.  This was the second fastest time of her career, and ranks her eighth in the GSAC thus far this season.

Throws
Sophomore Sedona Dietrich led the throws crew in the discus and the shot put with throws of 118' 7" and 36' 4.25".  Tossing the hammer for the first time this season, freshman Freda Amouzou led the team with a mark of 99' 10".  Senior Adelien Santa Maria was the team's top javelin thrower with a season best mark of 76' 04".

Next On the Schedule
The Firestorm will travel east to Mesa Community College next Saturday March 28 for the Carvel Jackson Memorial Invitational.  Field events begin at 9:00am and track events start at 4:30pm.
