Abril Selected As GSAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Glendale, Ariz.- On Monday, the Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC) announced the Players of the Week and Arizona Christian's Hugo Abril was selected GSAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, presented by Athletic Solutions.

Abril, originally from Barcelona, Spain, went 4-2 last week in the three matches played. On Wednesday against Grand Canyon University, Abril and Adrian Smith fell short against GCU's Tristan Berard and Daniel Jankoski in #1 Doubles, 3-6. In #1 Singles, Abril fought his way to three sets and ultimately came up short against GCU's Andreas Loizas.

Two days later, however, it was a different story.

In their match against Stanton University, Abril competed alongside Adrian Smith again in #1 Doubles versus SU's Oleksandr Kolesnychenko and Lemiel Kei and defeated the pair, 7-5. In #1 singles, Abril defeated SU's Kolesnychenko in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Abril continued that same momentum the next day against Hope International University. Abril and Smith competed with each other again in #1 Doubles, defeating HIU's Thomas Folsom and Karan Srivastava, 6-2. In #1 Singles, Abril defeated HIU's Srivastava in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

The ACU senior improved his record 11-1 in singles action and he is 5-1 when paired up with Adrian Smith.
