Box Score 2 PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Arizona Christian Firestorm softball team fell in both of their games to the 14th ranked Biola Eagles on Saturday afternoon by finals of 5-0 and 10-7 at North Canyon High School.
The Firestorm fall to 3-3 overall on the season and 0-2 in GSAC play. With the victories, the 14th ranked Biola Eagles are now 14-6 on the season and 2-2 in GSAC play.
Game one featured a pitcher's duel until the fourth inning, when Heather Hall homered off Firestorm starter Jackie Aguilar (1-2) to make it a 1-0 ballgame. Aguilar would go on to take the loss, pitching all seven innings while giving up five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
Biola got another two runs in the sixth inning on a Firestorm error and an RBI single. Brianna Madrid then hit a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh to cap the 5-0 victory for Biola.
Eagles' starter Reba DePriest (8-2) picked up the win, while allowing just two hits, five walks and she struckout 14.
Game two looked like it would go the Firestorm's way. After ACU gave up an RBI single and double in the top half of the first inning to fall behind at 2-0; Arizona Christian would then respond with three runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead after the first inning.
Biola answered with a two-run homer by Heather Hall in the second inning, to put Biola back on top at 4-3. Arizona Christian re-took the lead with solo homeruns by Meaghen Nelson and Alyssa Vanderdrink in the second and third inning to go up 5-4.
Biola then added a run on an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth, but then once again ACU responded with two solo homeruns by Abby Beasley and Alyssa Vanderdrink (her second of the game), to go back on top at 7-5.
The wheels came off in the seventh inning for ACU, as they surrendered five runs; three on a Kendall Maddox homerun and two on a Kasey Hormel homerun to fall behind and eventually drop the game at 10-7.
Jackie Aguilar (1-3) took the tough loss, after tossing 2.2 innings in relief, while allowing five runs; all earned on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
The Firestorm were scheduled to play on Monday and Tuesday against San Diego Christian College and Menlo College; however due to the poor upcoming forecasts, those games have been pushed back. Arizona Christian will next be in action on Friday and Saturday, when the Firestorm welcome Carroll College from Montana to town for a pair of non-conference doubleheaders. Friday's games are scheduled for 3pm and 5pm at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex. Saturday's games will be played at 12 noon and 2pm at North Canyon High School.
