Box Score 2 FULLERTON, Calif. – The Arizona Christian Firestorm softball team won both of their road conference games on Tuesday afternoon by finals of 12-1 and 10-5 against Hope International University in Fullerton, California.
With the victories, Arizona Christian improves to 10-4 overall on the season and 2-2 in GSAC play. The Firestorm earned their first every conference doubleheader sweep on Tuesday and now have their longest win streak in school history; with four straight wins. With the losses, Hope International falls to 7-22 overall, and remain winless at 0-8 in GSAC play.
Game one was similar to results the Firestorm saw on Sunday in Tucson. ACU struck for 12 runs on 11 hits; while holding the Royals to just a run on three hits. Arizona Christian struck for three runs in the first inning to jump on the Royals early. Hope International answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning, to make it 3-1.
It remained that way until the top of the fifth inning, when the Firestorm bats came alive. ACU struck for two runs in the fifth inning, three runs in the sixth inning and another four runs in the seventh inning to cap the 12-1 victory.
Jackie Aguilar (4-3) claimed the victory, going four innings; while allowing a run on three hits with five strikeouts. Offensively for the Firestorm, Abby Beasley finished 4-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and five RBI's.
Game two featured a back-and-forth game, that saw the Firestorm commit a season high five errors. There were 24 hits combined in game two, along with 15 combined runs and six combined errors.
The Firestorm got on the board first, striking for a run in the first inning and two more in the top of the second inning; before the Royals got on the board with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning.
Both teams then went scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, when the drama began. Arizona Christian scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two RBI single by Abby Beasley. Then the Royals tied the game at five with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning; on an error, an RBI single and a groundout.
Arizona Christian then buckled down and struck for five runs in the seventh inning to take the commanding 10-5 lead; which they would hold onto and win by. ACU had a two RBI doubles in the inning, an RBI single and an RBI triple.
Jackie Aguilar (5-3) claimed the victory in game two as well; with her inning of work in relief in the seventh inning; where she allowed just two hits and struckout one.
The Firestorm return home for a doubleheader on Wednesday against Crown College starting at 3pm at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
