Box Score 2 PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Arizona Christian Firestorm softball team split their doubleheader against the Embry-Riddle Eagles by finals of 12-4 and 5-7 at the Embry-Riddle Softball Field in Prescott, Arizona on Wednesday afternoon.
With the split, the Arizona Christian Firestorm move to 26-14 overall, while Embry-Riddle goes to 9-29 overall.
Game one on Wednesday afternoon featured 23 total hits and 16 runs scored between the two squads. Arizona Christian got on the board first, with a two-run homerun from centerfielder Abby Beasley to take the early 2-0 lead.
Embry-Riddle responded with two runs of their own, with an RBI single and an RBI double to tie the game at two apiece. After a scoreless top half of the second inning, the Eagles bats continued to swing well against Firestorm starter Jackie Aguilar; as they struck for two more runs and took a 4-2 lead.
The Firestorm bats came to life in the third inning, as ACU struck for six runs; to take a commanding 8-4 lead. ACU would never look back from there, as they went on to win the game 12-4.
Firestorm starter Jackie Aguilar received a no-decision, after lasting just 1.1 innings and allowing four runs on six hits. Reliever Destiney Spencer (4-1) picked up the win, going 5.2 innings, while allowing just four hits with four strikeouts.
Offensively the Firestorm received another big game from Meaghen Nelson, who went 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBI's and two runs scored.
In game two, the Firestorm came out a little sluggish as they were taking part in their 10th game in a six day span. The Eagles would jump on Firestorm starter Ashlynn Preciado (4-5) for a quick run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
ACU responded with three runs of their own in the top of the third inning, when Abby Beasley hit her second homerun of the day; to give the Firestorm a 3-1 lead.
Embry-Riddle answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sac-fly, an RBI single and an RBI double to reclaim the lead at 4-3.
Arizona Christian came right back once again, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead thanks to an Abby Beasley RBI double and an error by the Eagles to allow another run to score on a Presley Whetman sacrifice.
With ACU holding a slim lead at 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles struck for three runs off of Firestorm starter Ashlynn Preciado to take a 7-5 lead; which they would hold onto and win by.
In the loss, Preciado went 5.1 innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.
Offensively for the Firestorm, both Abby Beasley and Jasmine Aguilar finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate; the only ACU players to record multiple hits in game two.
The Firestorm will take on the Eagles from Embry-Riddle in Prescott for two more games on Wednesday afternoon at 2pm and 4pm, before the team breaks for spring break. The Firestorm will be back in Phoenix on Tuesday April 14th, when they host Hope International University in their regular season home finale.
