Stewart Gives Up Three But Saves 15

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- Against William Jessup on Saturday, Freshman Joshua Stewart surrendered three goals but made a career high 15 saves as the Firestorm fell 3-0 to the Warriors.

The first six and a half minutes of the game featured William Jessup on the attack as they fired off seven shots- five requiring saves including two shot-rebound-shot combos, one high, and one into the back of the net for a quick 1-0 lead.

Freshman Juan Mora finally pulled ACU off their heels as he managed the first Firestorm shot of the day in the eighth minute.  Two minutes later, Junior Ryan Scarpulla hit a shot.  Both shots were saved.

ACU had chances in the final nine minutes of the half.  Freshmen David Hagerich and Alex Segura both cracked shots that were saved and Junior Alonso Quintero served up a corner kick as the half was coming to a close.

WJU held on to their 1-0 lead at the break.

A header by Senior Luis Tapia on the back end of a free kick from Mora started the half but it sailed just wide right.

Following two straight shots saved by Stewart a left rebound was cashed in for a 2-0 WJU lead.

Fast forward to the final ten minutes and ACU still chasing two goals, Junior Hasani Nunez saw his shot blocked before hitting another shot high.  But a converted penalty kick made it a 3-0 game before Mora sent the final two shots of the day high.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will host Westmont at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex at 1:30 pm.
