Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, Junior Kylie Christman provided the power (two doubles and a home run) while Senior Jackie Aguilar and Junior Destinee Spencer both allowed just one run as Arizona Christian swept Carroll (MT) 3-1 and 9-1.
In game one, Senior Meaghen Nelson doubled before trotting home on a fielder's choice for a quick 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless second and third, both team plated a run in the fourth. The Saints (6-4) used a hit batter and double to score the first run of the season against Aguilar. Aguilar answered right back with an RBI double of her own to give ACU a 2-1 lead.
Senior Presley Whetman drove in Christman with an RBI single in the sixth to cap the game one scoring.
After retiring the first nine batters, Aguilar allowed at least one runner in the final four innings but pitched out of trouble for her third win of the year.
Without question, the defensive play of the day came in the top of the sixth when Senior Alyssa Vanderdrink laid out for a ball directly behind second base and after snagging the line drive just above the ground got to her feet and fired a strike to first for the double play.
Game two saw the Firestorm (6-0) score three in the second and one in the third on back-to-back doubles by Christman and Junior Taylor Fabing for a 4-0 edge.
In the fourth, an error with two outs opened the door for a four run inning as Christman cashed in three of those runs with a home run to left.
An unearned run in the fifth by the Saints kept the game alive. But the game ended on another CC error that plated the game ending run in the bottom of the sixth.
Spencer retired the first 11 batters she faced thanks to a nice 5-4-3 double play turned behind her in the first inning. She gave up single hits in the fourth, fifth (which drove in the unearned run), and sixth on her way to her second win of the season.
Next up for the Firestorm will a trip to California that will feature a three city spot including all the way up to Rocklin next weekend. Their first of three stops will be at La Sierra in Riverside on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm (AT)/ 2:00 pm (PT).
