GSAC Champs But Not Top Tournament Seed???

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

El Cajon, CA- As the final Saturday of the regular season played out, the confusion about who needed to do what was abundant.  When the games ended, Arizona Christian was named the season GSAC champion but was not granted the top seed in the upcoming GSAC tournament based on GSAC winning percentage.  ACU and San Diego Christian split their Saturday twin bill- 5-3 (ACU) and 8-0 (SDCC).

With the Hawks (30-15, 11-9 GSAC) not playing four GSAC contests because of rainouts not made up, SDCC ended the GSAC schedule four games short.  Menlo- the GSAC tournament host- and William Jessup were missing double headers with San Diego Christian.  The Oaks were give the top seed due to ending with a better GSAC winning percentage.  ACU was named the champ though because they completed all of their required conference games.

Regarding the games between ACU and SDCC on Saturday, SDCC opened with a run in the bottom of the first.  Back-to-back home runs in the second by Juniors Meaghen Nelson and Kylie Christman gave ACU a 2-1 cushion.

SDCC manufactured a run in the second to create a 2-2 tie.

However in the third, Senior Abby Beasley walked (one of three times for her on the day), Nelson walked, Christman doubled home Beasley, and Senior Jackie Aguilar drove home Nelson and Christman to push the Firestorm (34-13-1, 16-8 GSAC) out to a 5-2 edge.

Despite seeing San Diego Christian score another run and Arizona Christian not get another runner even to second, Aguilar threw a complete game to improve to 16-5 on the year.

Game two was all Hawks as they beat the Firestorm 8-0 thanks mostly to a six run third inning.

As the second seed in the GSAC tournament, the Firestorm will not play until Friday morning at 9:30 am against the winner of the third seed Vanguard and sixth seed William Jessup at Menlo in Atherton.  The GSAC tournament is a double elimination format.  San Diego Christian earned the fourth seed and will play against fifth seed Hope International on Thursday at 9:30 am.
