Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- In large part due eight errors on the day, Arizona Christian lost both games to William Jessup on Saturday 2-0 and 7-4. Of the nine runs allowed by ACU only three were earned. Sophomore Anely Marcilla was 2-5 on the day with two RBI.
In the opener, the Warriors (6-7, 2-0 GSAC) threaten in the first and second but were turned away. However, in the third back-to-back doubles both came into score- though only one was earned due an error.
Junior Ashlynn Preciado used six strikeouts to limit WJU to just those two runs in her complete game effort.
Unfortunately, the Firestorm (5-7, 1-3 GSAC) could not solve WJU's Shelbi Graifman who allowed just three base runners all game- an error in the third, a single by Senior Meaghen Nelson in the sixth, and a walk in the seventh.
Leading off the bottom of the first in game two, Senior Sianna Gomez hammered a single into right. A sacrifice and throwing error by William Jessup allowed Gomez come home for a quick 1-0 edge.
But WJU cashed in four runs in the third with a pair of errors making only one run earned against Freshman Hilaria Stewart.
An unearned run in the fourth had the Firestorm chasing four runs.
ACU closed the gap to one with three runs in the fifth. Gomez doubled. Junior Cheyann Michael and Sophomore Taylor Babbitt followed with singles as Babbitt brought home Gomez. Marcilla drove in Michael and Babbitt with a single to right to make the score 5-4.
However, ACU would not get any closer as the Warriors tacked on two more in the fifth to account for the final score.
On Tuesday, the Firestorm will host Goshen for a pair beginning at 5:00 pm at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
