Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- After dropping the first game 4-3, Arizona Christian used a six run inning in game two to produce a 7-4 win for the split. Sophomore Anely Marcilla was the star of the day as she earned the win and went 4-6 with three doubles and three RBI.
The day started with the teams exchanging single runs in the first inning- Marcilla came through with an RBI single.
In the third, the Hawks (14-13, 4-6 GSAC) added another run and the Firestorm (15-16, 4-8 GSAC) answered again with a double by Junior Ashlynn Preciado and Marcilla doubled to bring in Preciado.
SDCC saw their first five batters reach safely in the fifth as they scored two in the inning for a 4-2 lead. ACU tried to answer in the sixth when Sophomore Taylor Babbitt started the inning with a single. With one out, Junior Bridget Kruck tripled home Babbitt to make it 4-3. But Kruck was thrown out at the plate following a fly out to right and the double play ended the threat and essentially the game.
Game two was scoreless until the fourth inning when San Diego Christian sent eight batters to the plate and score three runs.
ACU trimmed one run off their deficit in the bottom of the inning after Marcilla doubled and came home on a sacrifice fly from Senior Yvette Ortega.
But then came the bottom of the fifth as Arizona Christian sent 11 batters to the dish and put on a six spot on the scoreboard. Babbitt opened the inning with a home run to center. Sophomore Jenna Castilleja singled, Senior Sianna Gomez doubled, Junior Cheyann Michael singled (RBI), Marcilla doubled home Michael, and a couple of errors kept the inning going and allowed two more to score.
Marcilla gave up a run in the seventh yet escaped a jam and ended the game with a line drive double play. She improved to 7-1 on the season with the win.
On Tuesday, the Firestorm will head up to Prescott to meet up with Embry-Riddle at 3:00 pm.
