Walk-Off Drops Firestorm to 1-3 On Nor Cal Road Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

Atherton, CA- On Saturday, Arizona Christian played three games to conclude their Northern California road trip against Menlo and William Jessup.  A walk-off win by WJU made ACU fall to 1-3 on the trip.  Junior Ashlynn Preciado homered and earned the lone win.

Beginning with the action on Thursday against Menlo, the Firestorm produced just five base runners- three hits and two errors- but had two of the opportunities cut short by double plays.

In Saturday's opener, game two against the Oaks (20-15, 6-8 GSAC) saw several more baserunners for ACU.  In fact, they opened the scoring after a couple of walks, an error, and an RBI single from Sophomore Anely Marcilla to build a 2-0 lead.

MC pushed across three runs in the fifth for the 3-2 edge.  But ACU tied the game at 3-3 after Senior Sianna Gomez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  However, the Oaks earned the sweep with a five run sixth inning.  The Firestorm tried to answer in the seventh but a walk to Preciado and double by Freshman Paige Church was followed by three popups.

Immediately turning their attention to playing William Jessup on Menlo's field, ACU saw WJU place the first run on the scoreboard in the third.  ACU tied the game at one after Preciado singled and eventually checked in on an RBI single from Marcilla.  The Warriors (11-14, 7-7 GSAC) moved in front 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

Down to their final out, the Firestorm (17-20, 5-11 GSAC) kept their hopes alive when Gomez reached on an error and Junior Cheyann Michael walked.  Preciado stepped up and clubbed her second home run of the season to left for the 4-2 cushion.  Preciado (5-11) then pitched around an error in the bottom of the seventh for the complete game win.

The third and final game on Saturday for ACU began on a positive note as they scored three runs in the top of the third highlighted by a two RBI single off the bat of Junior Chelsea Havill.

WJU used a solo home run in the fifth and a two run home run in the sixth to knot the game at three.

In the bottom of the seventh, Arizona Christian was one out away from forcing extra innings before William Jessup used a single, stolen base, and walk off single to earn the split.

On Tuesday, the Firestorm will host La Sierra at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex at 1:00 pm.
