Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian Women's Track opened their season at the Puma Indoor Invitational hosted by Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday. Sophomore Olivia McDermitt qualified for nationals and set a school record. Sophomore Lesha Turner set a record in her 60 meter race.
Off the oval track, McDermitt impressed with her half marathon run. Her time of 1:28:46 qualified her for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in May while setting a school record in the process.
Running on the track that ACU track uses for practice, Turner felt right at home for her two 60 meter races including a hurdle effort. In the straight dash, Turner recorded a time of 8.20 breaking the ACU women's 60 meter record. Adding in the hurdles, she posted a time of 9.92- less than 1/10 of a second off her fastest time. Sophomore Shyama Moss ran 8.77 in the 60 meter race.
Hitting the track for the longer distances on the track, Senior Charlotte Culiver ran 3:20.95 in her 1,000 meter run and then 5:34.53 for her mile effort. Freshman Zuri Vazquez also ran both races.
Senior Kinsey Pease ran in the 600 meter race- crossing the line at the 1:46.68 mark.
Sophomore Meghan McDermott participated in the heptathlon. She earned 2,190 points which included a second place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 4-08.25.
In the field portion of the day, Sophomore Kianna Patterson threw the shot put 30'9".
The Firestorm will next be on the track on February 9 and 10 at the Mesa Indoor and Multi hosted by Mesa Community College.
