Box Score 2 Prescott, AZ- After losing their first day of action to snow, Arizona Christian won one of three games played on Saturday in the Copper State Classic hosted by Embry-Riddle. Junior Kylee Brown homered twice with seven RBI in the three games. Senior Bridget Kruck was 7-12 with a homer and a double.
Game One- ACU wins 12-4
The Firestorm started their day with a game against host Embry-Riddle. Kruck sent the third pitch of the game over the left fence for her first home run as a Firestorm. The lead was short lived as the Eagles scored two runs in both the first and second innings.
Junior Taylor Babbitt homered to left leading off the top of the fourth inning- her second of the season. Freshman Shae Bushey scored in front of an RBI single by Freshman Jennifer Vickman. Vickman and Freshman Lauryn Nicander came home on Brown's first homer of the day as ACU went up 6-4.
Another five run inning in the fifth was highlighted by a double from Kruck and a second three run shot off the bat of Brown for an 11-4 edge. For Brown, she moved up to four home runs on the year.
The mercy rule kicked in after ACU scored in the sixth.
Freshman Adri Garcia started the game but Sophomore Hilaria Stewart (2-0) threw 4.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
Game Two- UAV wins 8-3
The game between Antelope Valley and Arizona Christian started with seven innings of scoreless softball.
Using the international tie break, the Pioneers started the top of the eighth with a runner at second base. UAV exploded for eight runs aided by two home runs and three ACU errors in the extra inning frame.
ACU tried to answer as they pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the inning but it was not enough. Freshman Elsy Guzman doubled to drive in the first run.
Sophomore Tatumn Porras (1-3) threw seven strong innings but could only get one out in the eighth before taking the loss.
Game Three- Goshen wins 6-5
In the third game of the freezing day, Arizona Christian and Goshen headed to the seventh inning with ACU up 1-0 (Babbitt doubled home Senior Chelsea Havill in the fourth).
Nicander started the seventh inning with a single to right. Senior Cheyann Michael doubled. Nicander scored on a Brown groundout and Michael eventually scored on an error for the 3-0 edge.
But the Maple Leafs tied the game with three in the seventh.
The eighth inning again saw ACU plate two runs. But once again, Goshen pushed across three runs including the walk-off winner.
Senior Ashlynn Preciado went the distance but fell to 2-2 with the loss.
On Wednesday, Arizona Christian is scheduled to host Goshen at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex at 4:00 pm.
