Big Innings Send ACU To Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Phoenix, AZ- Thanks to primarily three big innings, Arizona Christian earned an 11-7 and 9-1 sweep over San Diego Christian on Tuesday.  Junior Kylee Brown homered and delivered four RBI in game one.  Sophomore Paige Church homered and drove in three in game two.

The Hawks (9-15, 0-8 GSAC) scored first in the opener as they plated two runs in the second.

But the Firestorm (11-16, 4-6 GSAC) answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame.  Church walked.  Junior Taylor Babbitt doubled (Church thrown out at the plate).  Senior Ashlynn Preciado walked before Sophomore Tatumn Porras singled home a pair of teammates.  Freshman Joy Mendez and Senior Bridget Kruck both produced RBI doubles.  Brown used an RBI single to make the score 5-2.

In the fourth, both teams scored two runs with the ACU runs coming in the form of a two run home run by Brown- her seventh of the season

SDCC scored one in the top of the fifth before a double from Babbitt started the wheels turning for a four run bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore Hilaria Stewart (5-3) pitched into the sixth to earn the win.  Freshman Adri Garcia tossed the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run.

Once again the Hawks struck first with a single run in the first inning of game two.

However, the first seven batters reached safely in the bottom of the first capped by a two run double by Freshman Elsy Guzman to build a 5-1 lead.

Two hitters into the bottom of the second, Church crushed her sixth home run of the year to right center.  ACU plated two more runs using a double followed by a single combo.

Porras (3-4) threw four innings which included retiring nine batters in a row at one point.  Junior Anely Marcilla made her season debut and pitched the final inning.

A week from Wednesday (4/4), the Firestorm will make up their rainout with Benedictine-Mesa from earlier in the year.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
