Los Angeles, CA- With most of the ACU Women's Track team at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational, the throwers were down the road at the El Camino Invitational over the weekend. Senior Kinsey Pease and Sophomore Amanda Wick finished one/two in the javelin.
Pease grabbed first place with her javelin throw of 109'3". Wick was second with a 75'1" effort. But Wick also recorded a discus throw of 122'1" and set a school record with a 104'7" hammer throw.
In Jesse Owens stadium on the CSULA campus, Sophomore Meghan McDermott was the star Firestorm women as she participated in five events. In the 200 meter race, she ran 28.42 while finishing the 100 meter hurdles in 18.17. Teaming with Senior Charlotte Culiver, Sophomore Kylie Neafus, and Pease, McDermott ran the lead leg of a 4:22.20 finish in the 4x400 relay. In the field events, she posted marks in the long jump (14'10.75") and high jump (4'8.75").
Sophomore Shyama Moss challenged the 100 meter hurdles (18.79), pole vault (8'8.75"), and high jump (4'6.75").
Along with the 4x400 relay, Culiver (2:22.87) and Neafus (2:44.45) both ran the 800 meter race.
In the fast lane, Sophomores Lesha Turner and Courtney Sweat posted 100 meter times of 13.15 and 13.43 respectively. Sweat added a 200 meter run (27.89) with Turner crossing the 100 meter hurdle line at 16.12.
Freshman Catera Lee was the lone ACU representative in the 400 meter hurdle race and ended up with a time of 1:11.97.
The women will run, jump, and throw again in two weeks when they participate in the Willie Williams Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona.
