Firestorm Split Final Home Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Phoenix, AZ- On Tuesday evening, Arizona Christian Softball played their final home games of the season earning a 5-3 and 9-8 split with Ottawa (AZ).  Junior Kylee Brown was 4-6 with two doubles, three runs scored, and three RBI.  Sophomore Paige Church homered and drove in four.

In the bottom of the first inning of game one, Senior Bridget Kruck opened with a triple and Brown doubled her home for a 1-0 lead.

The Spirit (9-39) grabbed a 2-1 in the top of the third before the Firestorm (13-22) responded with a three run last of the third.  Senior Cheyann Michael singled, Kruck doubled, and a sacrifice fly, fielder's choice, and double from Church later ACU held a 4-1 lead.

OUAZ added one in the fourth and ACU countered with another run in the fifth to cap the scoring.  Freshman Elsy Guzman and Freshman Jennifer Vickman had back-to-back singles with a stolen base sandwiched in between as Guzman scored on a groundout by Junior Anely Marcilla.

Sophomore Hilaria Stewart threw the first four innings to earn the win.  Senior Ashlynn Preciado tossed the final three innings of scoreless relief to earn the save.

Ottawa (AZ) sent eight to the plate in the top of the first of the night cap to score two and leave the bases loaded.  After two of first three batters reached, Church sent a three run home run over the left center field fence- her team tying eighth of the year- for a 3-2 edge.

With two runs in both the third and fourth, OUAZ grabbed a 6-3 edge.  Freshman Adri Garcia capped a three run fourth with a two RBI single to knot the game at 6-6.

Falling behind 8-6, ACU rallied for the tying runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to Guzman's first home run of the season- a two run shot.

Unfortunately, a throwing error allowed OUAZ to score the winning run in the top of the seventh.  ACU had the potential tying run at second and potential winning run at first when the game ended on a strikeout.

Stewart was charged with the loss to send her record to 7-6.

On Thursday, the Firestorm will head to California for a double header with Saint Katherine at the Cardiff Sports Complex.  Game time appears to be 12:00 pm.
