Box Score 2 Costa Mesa, CA- On Friday, the 6-1 and 2-1 Arizona Christian losses to No. 8 Vanguard came down to three innings as the Firestorm put up a good fight.
The Lions (47-7, 13-5 GSAC) scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the third inning of game one. ACU put up a run in the fourth inning- Junior Taylor Babbitt singled and then scored on an RBI single from Senior Cheyann Michael- for a 5-1 game.
Just a single run for VU in the sixth accounted for the final score.
Michael finished the game 2-3 while Babbitt was 1-3.
Junior Anely Marcilla and Sophomore Tatumn Porras were in the circle for the final 3.1 innings and combined to allow just one unearned run.
Game two was a good old fashion pitcher's duel between Senior Ashlynn Preciado and Vanguard's Courtney Thornhill. Both allowed just one run heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Preciado gave up just three hits in the day cap.
ACU collected their run in the third after Michael singled and then scored on an RBI single down the right field line by Senior Chelsea Havill.
Unfortunately in the bottom of the sixth, Vanguard pushed across the game winning run. Arizona Christian had two on in the top of the seventh but could not plate the tying run.
Senior Bridget Kruck and Freshman Elsy Guzman both went 2-3 in game two.
On Saturday, the Firestorm (13-24, 4-12 GSAC) will conclude the regular season with a double header at San Diego Christian. The games will be played at the Santee Sports Complex beginning at 5:00 pm. Ironically, ACU will be right back at Vanguard in a week and a half for the GSAC tournament.
