Firestorm Close Out Regular Season With SDCC Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Santee, CA- On Saturday, the Firestorm closed out their regular season with a 14-4 and 6-5 sweep of San Diego Christian.  Junior Kylee Brown, Freshman Jennifer Vickman, and Freshman Elsy Guzman all homered.

Brown started off the scoring by hammering the second pitch she saw of the day over the center field fence.  She regained the team lead with her ninth home run of the season.

In the top of the second, Vickman connected on her first collegiate home run with a shot over the left field fence.  The next three batters reached before Sophomore Paige Church bounced a ground rule double over the fence to score two.  Senior Chelsea Havill followed with an RBI single to give the Firestorm (15-26, 6-12 GSAC) a 5-0 edge.

The Hawks (10-32, 0-20 GSAC) closed the gap with a four run bottom of the third inning which featured a three run home run.

But the very next half inning, ACU sent ten batters to the plate scoring six runs.  A triple from Church and two RBI double from Vickman were the highlights.

Guzman was part of a three run fifth inning with her third home run on the year.

Senior Ashlynn Preciado earned the win.  Junior Anely Marcilla needed just eight pitches to record a 1-2-3 inning bottom of the fifth inning to close out the game.

SDCC scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two.

Junior Taylor Babbitt doubled leading off the top of the second and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Preciado.  RBI singles from Havill and Preciado in the third tied the score at 3-3.

A pair of unearned runs knotted the game at 4-4 after five innings and ultimately forced extra innings.

The final inning saw ACU plate two runs with Senior Bridget Kruck singling through the right side to score both runs.  SDCC scored one run in the bottom of the inning before the game came to an end.

Sophomore Hilaria Stewart pitched the final four innings to earn the win and improve to 8-8 on the year.

Next up for the Firestorm will be an appearance in the GSAC tournament hosted at Vanguard beginning on May 1.  ACU will be the fifth seed with their opponent yet to be announced- though it appears to be Menlo the fourth seed.
