ACU Splits With OUAZ To Open ACU Softball Field

Glendale, Ariz.- Playing for the first time actually on campus, Arizona Christian split with OUAZ on Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore Claire Buckley (HR), Sophomore Taylor Schleisman (3B), and Junior Kirsten Garcia (2B) combined to hit for the cycle on the day.  Senior Taylor Roberts was locked in as she threw a complete game shutout.

  • Roberts - 7 inning shutout, 6 strikeouts
 

Inside Game One

  • The first four batters in the bottom of the first reached for ACU- Buckley singled, Bryant walked, Schleisman singled, and Brown singled home two
  • After Mady Carli singled, Buckley made history with a drive over the left field fence for the first home run on the new ACU Softball Field
  • Schleisman tripled home Buckley in the fifth to cap the scoring at 5-0
  • OUAZ had two runners reach third but both were erased without scoring- one was retired leaving early and the other was thrown out at home
  • Roberts did the rest as she retired 10 of the last 11 batters she faced

Inside Game Two

  • Elsy Guzman opened the scoring after walking and scoring on the Zarate sac fly in the second
  • OUAZ scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth
  • ACU missed a great opportunity with bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth
  • In the sixth, Garcia doubled and then came home on an Anyrie Brown sac bunt
  • Despite out hitting OUAZ 6-4 in the game, ACU would not get any closer
