INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
ACU found themselves on the board first after a pair of goals from
Ryan Leonard and a strong individual effort from
Caleb Schaapveld. However the Titans managed to match with three goals of their own. It took a while for the Firestorm to find their groove. With zero substitutes and tired legs, unforced turnovers and rushed offensive possessions led to ACU playing defense the majority of the first half. After some halftime adjustments, the Firestorm went on a 4-0 run in the 3rd quarter to put them in the driver's seat. A strong performance at the face-off dot by
Slater Richey led to continual possession for the Firestorm, and goaltender
Levi St. Pierre stepped up his communication from in between the pipes, leading ACU to only give up 1 goal in the second half. The Firestorm would hold on through the 4th quarter to take home their fourth and final win of the season.

Thoughts on the weekend from Head Coach Jake Landon:
I loved to see our guys' willingness to tackle adversity. Knowing they were headed into an exhausting battle with zero subs due to injuries, they were determined to not only just get by, but to give everything they had to fight for the win. It's an impressive feat, and no one complained or backed down from the challenge. The game had its miscues and rough edges, but our guys were coachable and made adjustments on the fly. These guys are so flexible and just love the opportunity to compete. Walking away from our first season with a group of all freshman and sophomore guys, and finding ourselves positive in the win column, there's zero complaints to be made here. It was a fun trip, a fun season, and we're looking forward to next year trying to fight for a spot in the SLC postseason.
Â
What's Next?
The Firestorm finish their inaugural season with a record of 4-2. As provisional members of
the SLC and
the MCLA, they will petition for full membership and eligibility for postseason and awards in 2024. Until then, they will be preparing in the offseason and welcoming in a strong class of 2027 to join their brotherhood.
