Sternberg Promoted to Head Coach, ACU Cheer Prepares to Compete in ‘25-26

Arizona Christian University (ACU) is pleased to announce the promotion of Whitney Sternberg to Head Cheer Coach, effective immediately. With an impressive background in competitive cheerleading and a strong commitment to athletic and personal development, Sternberg brings exceptional leadership to the university's cheer program. Coach Sternberg will guide the Firestorm Cheer program into a new competitive environment, while continuing to expand ACU's gameday atmosphere on the sidelines.

Coach Sternberg takes the reins from Coach Tracy Sandon, who will continue to lead ACU's competitive dance program and work alongside Sternberg for ACU athletic events.

Sternberg has a proven track record in competitive cheerleading, and has been instrumental in the success of multiple national championship teams. During her tenure as a collegiate athlete, she achieved notable accomplishments, including a UCA D1 Small Coed Traditional National Title (2021), UCA D1 Large Coed Game Day National Championship (2022), served as a senior captain on her collegiate cheer team, and earned multiple national competition podium placements.

"My passion extends beyond athletic performance to developing young athletes holistically," Sternberg stated. "I am committed to creating an environment that nurtures both athletic excellence and personal growth, guided by my Christian faith."

Sternberg's coaching experience includes roles with Keegan Hubbard Travel Clinics and Arizona Instructions, where she developed comprehensive training programs and mentored athletes at high school and collegiate levels.

"Coach Sternberg is committed to building a competitive cheer program in a manner consistent with the ACU Firestorm Community - rooted in the Christian faith while pursuing excellence in the classroom and on the mat," commented Dr. Peter Dryer, Director of Athletics. "Under Coach Tracy Sandon's leadership, we have been successful in competitive dance while having our cheer program performing well on the sidelines. With this promotion for Coach Sternberg, we will be able to offer more support for our cheer student-athletes and prepare them for competition!"

Fully certified in USA Cheer Safety and CPR/AED, Sternberg is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of athlete safety and performance. ACU looks forward to Sternberg's continued leadership in building a competitive and inspiring cheer program.
