Alachua, FL – On his final throw of the contest, junior
TaHaj Acoff set a new personal best with a toss of 56' 2.5" (17.13m) which shot him up the leader board from seventh place to second place and achieved his second straight All-American award at the NAIA Track & Field Indoor Championships.
Acoff entered the contest ranked 6
th nationally at 54' 11.75" (16.76m). But after five sub-par throws, he found himself in 7
th place with only one more shot to move up the leader board. He made it count. Acoff made a toss of 56' 2.5" (17.13m), well over a foot better than he has ever thrown, and suddenly 7
th place was 2
nd place, and nobody replaced him.
Thoughts from Coach Bell
"We are super proud of TaHaj. He has put in a lot of hard work to get to this level. More than 500 male student athletes competed in the shot put across the NAIA this indoor season and for him to finish 2
nd at the national championships is a special moment. Ultimately though, all credit goes to God. We are grateful he created TaHaj and blessed him with some special gifts."
