Firestorm Complete Sweep of Warriors

PHOENIX, Ariz. --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team completed the sweep of the William Jessup Warriors by a finals of 6-3 and 4-3 in Saturday's doubleheader at Firestorm Field.

The Firestorm improve to 7-11 on the season and 7-11 in GSAC play. With the losses, the William Jessup Warriors fall to 3-13 overall and 3-13 in GSAC play.

In game one, the Firestorm jumped on the Warriors early and often. ACU scored the game's first run on a Ryan Lischer RBI single that score Tate Erickson; for the 1-0 lead after two innings of play.

The Firestorm exploded for a four-run fifth inning; starting with an Anthony Balderama RBI single. After a few errors and a wild pitch, Balderama would then come around to score the games second run.

Jesse Poweziak then hit a two-RBI single in the fifth inning, and an RBI single in the seventh inning to give ACU a commanding 6-0 lead.

In the ninth inning, the Warriors scored all three of their runs on a pair of bases loaded walks and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Firestorm starter Joel Klinkhammer (2-0) got the win, going 8.2 innings, while allowing three runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts. Dean Jackson earned his third save of the season, getting the game's final out; a strikeout.

Game two required extra-innings, as the Firestorm walked off with a 4-3 victory to complete the sweep of William Jessup on a Jake Wakamatsu sac-fly that scored Tanner Stokey from third base.

Tate Erickson got ACU on the board first in game two, with an RBI single that scored Tanner Stokey. Christopher Burks knocked in the games second run in the second inning, on a groundout to second base; that scored AJ Arroyo from third base. AJ Arroyo would then hit into a RBI fielder's choice in the fourth inning to give ACU a 3-0 lead before the Warriors struck for three runs.

Firestorm starter Brett Swartz received a no-decision, as he lasted five innings and allowed two unearned runs on four hits. Dean Mason (1-0) picked up the win, with his one inning of work in relief with two strikeouts.

The Firestorm will now hit the road, as they travel west on March 6th and 7th for a three-game set against the San Diego Christian Hawks. Game one is set for Friday at 2pm in San Diego, California.
