Box Score 2 SANTEE, Calif. --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team fell in both games to the San Diego Christian Hawks on Saturday afternoon by a finals of 16-6 and 13-4 in Santee, California.
With the losses, the Firestorm fall to 8-13 on the season and 8-13 in GSAC play. With the victories, the San Diego Christian Hawks improve to 7-19 overall and 7-14 in GSAC play.
It was a rough afternoon for the Firestorm on Saturday. After defeating the San Diego Christian Hawks in game one of their series on Friday afternoon, ACU ran into a Hawks team that saw their bats come to live; to the tune of 29 runs total in Saturday's doubleheader.
In game one, the Hawks got on the board early and often. San Diego Christian struck for a run in the first inning, two runs in the third inning and another three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Arizona Christian responded with four runs of their own in the top half of the fifth inning, only to see San Diego Christian put up a six spot in the bottom half of the inning to take a 12-4 lead.
San Diego Christian put up another four runs in the seventh inning and then the Firestorm added two runs of their own in the eighth inning, but would fall 16-6.
ACU had seven hits in game one, two of which came from leadoff hitter Tanner Stokey. Stokey finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a run scored and two RBI's. Joel Klinkhammer (3-2) took the loss, tossing 3.2 innings; while allowing six runs, four earned on seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
Game two didn't get any better for the Firestorm. San Diego Christian picked up right where they left off, scoring five runs in the first inning, two runs in the second, and another two runs in the third to take a 9-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
ACU scored a pair of runs in the top half of the fourth inning to get on the scoreboard, but the Hawks answered with four more runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 13-2.
The Firestorm would score two more runs in the sixth inning, but fall 13-4.
In the loss, Arizona Christian University recorded just five hits; with their 1-2-3 hitters each recording one hit a piece. Firestorm starter Brett Swartz (1-6) lasted just one inning on Saturday, allowing seven runs on seven hits with one walk.
The Firestorm will now return home for a pair of non-conference games on Monday and Tuesday afternoons at Firestorm Field. First up for ACU, is St. Cloud State University on Monday afternoon at 2pm, followed by a game against Bemidji State University on Tuesday at 2pm; also at Firestorm Field.
