Big Bats Game One, Quiet Bats Game Two, ACU Wins Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian produced 14 runs for the second game in a row before being held to one run in the series finale as they split with San Diego Christian 14-10 and 4-1 on Saturday.  The Firestorm flexed their muscle again as they homered four times including two long balls from Senior Harris Lyons.

The Firestorm (10-5, 2-1 GSAC) liked the number three as four times they scored three runs in an inning during the opener.

Lyons took care of the first three runs when smashed a three run shot in the second.  The Hawks (2-5, 1-2 GSAC) answered with single runs in the third and fourth.

Junior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. sent a two run bomb out in the fourth.  Lyons liked what he saw as he went back-to-back with Nunnally.  For Nunnally that was his team leading fourth home run of the season.  The two for Lyons gives him three on the year.

In the fifth, Senior Hector Ortiz singled leading off the inning.  Senior Jake Howard then doubled to move Ortiz to third before an error allowed Ortiz to score run seven for ACU.  Nunnally doubled to cash in Howard.  Nunnally came home on a wild pitch.

After SDCC used a double from Joshua Sidley to score two in the top of the seventh, Senior Kai Davis singled to center and Lyons doubled behind him.  Senior Landon Teramoto pinch ran and Davis and Teramoto both scored on a single by Junior Matt Mara to create an 11-4 cushion.

Davis sent a drive down the left field line that carried out for a two run shot (Sophomore Trent Troncone scored in front of him).  Junior Sam Landes came into score as a pinch runner thanks to an RBI single from Junior Max Sias to finalize the scoring for ACU.

Just like the day before Arizona Christian surrendered a big chunk of runs in the top of the ninth but held on for the 14-10 win.

Junior Kelvan Pilot threw six innings surrendering one earned run to grab the win.

In the day cap, SDCC finally turned the ball over to their ace Caleb Rodusky in an attempt to slow the Firestorm.  Slow them he did as he only gave up one unearned run in his six innings of work.

Junior Bobby Moretti tried to match Rodusky pitch for pitch and had only allowed two runs through six.  But he finally gave up two more in the seventh.  Senior Joel Klinkhammer pitched the final 0.2 innings of both games and did not give a run in his 1.1 total innings of work.

The Firestorm will return to action on Friday as they travel up to Rocklin, CA, to meet up with William Jessup at McBean Park.  First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm AT/ 2:00 pm PT.
