Firestorm Fall With Late PCC Rally

The Arizona Christian University Baseball team allowed seven runs in the top of the seventh inning, falling 7-5 to Providence Christian College in game one of the 4-Him Classic.

The Firestorm (2-2) opened the scoring in the bottom of third inning, plating three runs.  Senior Gary Sheffield, Jr. reached base on a singled to third.  Senior Marco Castilla was able to move Sheffield to second base on a hard-hit ball to third base causing an error.  With one out, Senior Adam Wolfe roped a double scoring Sheffield and Castilla.  After Wolfe stole third base, Senior Matt Mara singled to score Wolfe for a 3-0 Firestorm lead.

The scoring continued for the Firestorm in the sixth inning plating two more runs.  With two outs, Senior Dom Rodriguez singled up the middle.  Rodriguez was able to reach second base on a wild pitch.  Junior Trent Troncone drove in Rodriguez on a single bringing Sheffield to plate.  Sheffield added to his hit total on the day doubling and scoring Troncone.

The Firestorm took a 5-0 lead into the top of seventh inning, when the Sea Beggars (1-3) found its offense.  Providence College was able to plate seven runs on three hits and two errors to take the led heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.  Arizona Christian showed fight in the bottom of the seventh inning leaving two runners on base, but not being able to convert.

The Firestorm were led at the plate by Sheffield with a 3-for4 performance with one RBI and one run scored.  Wolfe also contributed a multi-hit game going 2-for3 with one RBI, one run scored and one walk.  Sophomore Trevor McGee tossed five scoreless innings.  Senior Tony Pins took the loss on the mound and allowed four runs (two earned).

The Firestorm will return to action tomorrow continuing play in the 4-Him Classic with a doubleheader versus University of Saint Katherine and San Diego Christian.   First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:30 am.
