Box Score Arizona Christian University Baseball dropped a non-conference game on the road to University of Saint Katherine on Thursday evening. The Firebirds defeated the Firestorm 4-3 in 10 innings.
Arizona Christian was held scoreless in the contest until the 7th inning when they plated three runs to take a 3-2 advantage. Senior Michael Dunnebecke led off the inning with a single through the hole at second base before Senior Kyle Robbins drew a walk to put runners at first and second with no outs. Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. advanced the runners with a single through the left side to load the bases. Senior Marco Castilla drove in the first ACU run with a sacrifice fly to center. After a pitching change and ground out, Sophomore Cohen Heckethorn drove a ball down the left field line for a double to score Robbins and Nunnally, Jr. for the 3-2 lead.
After the Firebirds played one in the bottom half, both teams battled and were held scoreless until the 10th inning when the Hawks singled to center scoring the winning run.
Both Senior Matt Mara and Sophomore Jordan Meier collected two hits apiece include a double each in the contest. Heckethorn ended the contest going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Sophomore Cam Sharp started on the mound tossing seven innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out 10. Junior Eric Schwalbe, Senior Colton Wheeler and Senior Tony Pins all saw action out of the bullpen. Wheeler took the loss on the mound.
The Firestorm (9-13) returned to action on Friday in GSAC play at San Diego Christian. The doubleheader was moved to Friday due to the chance of rain on Saturday.
