Box Score 2 Rocklin, CA- The ACU Baseball team was swept on Saturday in GSAC action playing at William Jessup. Arizona Christian dropped game one 9-8 before dropping game two 9-5. ACU produced 20 hits through the doubleheader in the losses.
ACU started fast in game one taking a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning. The Warriors cut the deficit in half in their half of the third making it 4-2. The Firestorm would plate runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings but falling short in the comeback.
Junior Eric Schwalbe went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored, and a RBI. Senior Dom Rodriguez doubled in the contest driving in two. Senior Michael Dunnebecke and Junior Nicholas McCormick each collected a multi-hit performance record two hits each.
Sophomore Trevor McGee started on the mound throwing 5.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four. Junior Steven Butts, Senior Austin Bright, and Junior River Carbone all saw action in relief. Butts recorded the loss falling to 3-2 on the year.
Game two ACU was able to tie up the game in the third inning plating one run. William Jessup then scored three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The Firestorm (16-27, 11-21 GSAC) went on to score one in the fourth and three in the sixth, but couldn't hold the Warriors (34-13, 26-7 GSAC) at bay.
Senior Adam Wolfe went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and RBI. Dunnebecke and McCormick recorded their second multi-hit game on the day with recording two hits apiece.
Schwalbe started on the bump throwing 2.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits. Sophomore Cam Sharp, Senior Colton Wheeler, Senior Tony Pins and Junior Baylor Giannini all saw action out of the bullpen. Schwalbe took the loss in the game.
ACU will return to action Wednesday in non-conference action versus Ottawa (AZ) at Surprise Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
