Firestorm Take Two To Open Up Calderone Classic

Phoenix, AZ- On Thursday, Arizona Christian faced off against both University of The Southwest and Antelope Valley to open up the Calderone Invitational, the team won both games, setting the pace for the rest of the weekend.

  • The Firestorm once again got into some early trouble to begin the game, with Southwest rattling off 2 runs in the first inning. 

  • The Firestorm muscled their way back slugging 5 runs in the third inning alone in an offensive onslaught led primarily by Walker Keller.

  • The Firestorm bullpen would then hold the line, as the team held on for the victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Firestorm  got into some early trouble with a couple of errors defensively to start the ballgame and was quickly down 1-0.

  • The Firestorm were able to bounce back quickly with runs coming early in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th inning of the ball game.

  • The ACU pitching staff continued its strong performance to start the year, holding the Pioneers to only 2 runs the entire game.  

 

Coach Joe's Thought's

"Today was a great day for us. Our pitchers did a really good job of battling out of some tough situations making some really big pitches. Our bunt game was really effective today and a lot of guys contributed to both wins. We need to continue to learn from our mistakes and keep playing together."

The Firestorm will continue play Friday when they take on (19) Lewis Clark State at 7 PM at Apollo High School.
