Box Score 2 GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Arizona Christian University baseball team (11-6) were swept by No. 24 Lewis-Clark State College (7-1) Friday afternoon by scores of 16-4 and 13-4 at Apollo High School.
Series Notes:
LCSC now controls the all-time series, 3-1 after the pair of losses on Friday afternoon.
Game One:
Justen Burkey went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Catcher Kurtis Roberts was the only other Firestorm team member to finish with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4. Ramon Miranda went 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double.
Starter Chase Martinzez took the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits across four innings, walking four with one strikeout. Spencer Davis and Roy Washburn combined to toss four innings of relief and allowed eight runs, and Benji Foyle threw a scoreless ninth inning and allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out one.
Game Two:
Robby Campillo went 2-for-4 and took the team lead in homers with his sixth of the season with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Damien McElroy finished 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and Alec Ortiz went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple and a walk.
Starting pitcher Trevor McGee took the loss and allowed 10 runs, five earned, in 3-2/3 innings of work and struck out six. Hard-throwing reliever Anthony Defrancesco tossed 4-1/3 innings and struck out six, and two other relievers combined to throw the final inning, allowing one run while walking one and striking out one.
Thoughts from Coach:
"Lewis-Clark State is a very talented team and we just made too many mental and physical mistakes. We were able to see a lot of positive things from a few of our guys and we still have a lot of work to do. We will get better each day going forward and look forward to a great week next week."
