Box Score Waddell, AZ – The Arizona Christian University baseball team (7-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season as they came from behind to hand No. 4 Lewis-Clark State (6-1) their first loss of the season in a thrilling 10-9 walk off victory at Canyon View High School on Thursday evening in Waddell, AZ.
Series Notes:
This was the Firestorm's second victory over the Warriors improving their record against them to 2-4.
The Game:
Sergio Heguertty got the start and pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing six runs, four earned on seven hits while recording six strikeouts and three walks. Trey Tarver (2-0) picked up the victory in relief pitching 1 inning while allowing two earned runs on one hit while walking two. Caleb Beach led the Firestorm's offense going 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
The Warriors got to Heguertty early as they put up three runs to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Firestorm fought back in the second as Caleb Beach delivered an RBI bunt single with runners on the corners to make it 3-1. The Firestorm would add another run late in the inning on a sac fly by Daniel Durazo to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Warriors answered though in the fourth on a home run and an RBI single to increase their lead back to three runs at 5-2. They would then add another home run in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2. That lead wouldn't last long though as the Firestorm loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the fifth. Tarver would then follow with a base hit through the right side to make it 6-4. After a failed sac bunt attempt the Firestorm would then tie the game as Beach smashed a double to right center to make it 6-6 which is where the score would stand at the end of the inning.
Once again the Warriors would take the lead though as they got a run off a fielder's choice to go back up 7-6 in the seventh inning. The Firestorm didn't give up though as they tied the game in the bottom of the eight on an RBI single by Oliver Frias to make it 7-7. The Warriors would retake the lead once again in the ninth inning as they got two runs on a base hit off of Tarver to make it 9-7 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Tarver then led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to get a Firestorm rally started. Then with runners on the corners Beach delivered a sac fly to make it 9-8. Justin Ramirez would then follow with a single to put runners on first and third. Daniel Durazo then stepped to the plate and ripped a double into right center as the Firestorm walked off to a 10-9 victory to upset the No. 4 Warriors.
