Firestorm Smash Record Five Home Runs As They Outslug Eagles

Prescott, AZ – The Arizona Christian University baseball team (30-24) took down Embry-Riddle (AZ) (23-25) 19-13 in a thrilling slugfest at the ERAU Baseball Field on Tuesday evening in Prescott, AZ.

Series Notes:

With the win the Firestorm improve their record against the Eagles to 2-1.

The Game:

Chase Martinez got the start and pitched 3 innings allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits while striking out two and walking two. Jackson Hohensee (1-3) picked up the win in relief pitching 2/3 of an inning while allowing two hits and striking out one. Evan Massie earned his first save of the year as he pitched the final 3 innings allowing two runs, one earned on four hits while walking two and striking out three. Justin Ramirez went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and two home runs and Robby Campillo went 3-for-6 with 5 RBIs to lead the Firestorm's offense.

The Firestorm jumped on top in the first inning as Campillo hit into a fielder's choice to make it 1-0. The Eagles would then quickly tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second. The Firestorm would retake the lead in the top of the third as Manny Villa blasted a home run to left field to make it 2-1. The Firestorm would then increase their lead in the fourth as they struck for a big inning. After a leadoff double Justin Ramirez crushed his first home run of the game to put the Firestorm ahead 4-1. Then later in the inning with two on Marques Titialli smashed a three-run home run to left to make it 7-1. Another run would score on a wild pitch as the Firestorm took an 8-1 lead. The Eagles didn't give up though as they put up four runs in the bottom half to make it 8-5.

Ramirez then extended the Firestorm's lead to 9-5 as he smashed his second homerun of the game to lead off the fifth. That lead would be short lived as the Eagles came storming back with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 11-9 lead. That lead wouldn't last either though as it was the Firestorm's turn to fight back in the sixth. The Firestorm would load the bases with nobody out before Ramirez delivered a two run single through left side to tie the game 11-11. A walk would follow to reload the bases before Campillo stepped up and lined a single up the middle that cleared the bases following an error to give the Firestorm a 14-11 lead. Titialli would then follow with a sac fly to make it 15-11.

The scoring wasn't done though as the Eagles pulled a run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 15-12. The Firestorm weren't done either as they struck again in the top of the seventh. First Rhett Holmes smashed the Firestorm's fifth home run of the game to set a new team single game record and make it 16-12. Then later in the inning Campillo delivered a two run single to make it 18-12. The Eagles would respond with a run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 18-13. The Firestorm would then tack on one more run in the top of the ninth on a passed ball before the game was called due to darkness as the Firestorm prevailed 19-13.
