Box Score 2 IRVINE, CA --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team lost both games of Saturday's doubleheader with the 18th ranked Concordia Eagles by finals of 4-3 and then 11-5 at Concordia University in Irvine, California.
With the losses, the Firestorm fall to 2-4 on the season and 2-4 in GSAC play. The 18th ranked Concordia Eagles improve to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in GSAC play.
In game one on Saturday, ACU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, before Concordia tied the game with a run in the first and second inning. The teams would settle in from there and the next run wouldn't come across until the bottom of the seventh inning by the Eagles to take a 3-2 lead. The Firestorm quickly responded with a run of their own in the top half of the eighth inning to tie the game at three.
Game one went to extra-innings, when in the bottom of the 11th inning, Ryan land scored on a passed ball to give the Eagles a 4-3 victory.
Firestorm starter Joel Klinkhammer went 6.1 innings and allowed three runs; two earned on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Klinkhammer received a no-decision and JT Cox (0-1) took the loss, while pitching two-thirds of an inning, while walking two and allowing the run to score on the passed ball.
Offensively for the Firestorm in game one, both Anthony Balderrama (2-for-5, 1 RBI) and Jake Wakamatsu (2-for-2, 1 RBI) were the lone ACU players to record multiple hits in the game.
Game two was all about the Concordia Eagles. Once again, ACU scored in the top half of the first inning, scoring two to take the early 2-0 lead. After that, it was all Concordia as the Eagles scored two runs in the second inning, two in the third, five in the fifth, and two more in the sixth inning to complete the sweep of the Firestorm and take game three by a score of 11-5.
Firestorm starter Brett Swartz (0-1) took the loss, going five inning while allowing four runs; three earned on five hits with one strikeout. AJ Arroyo was the lone batter from ACU to record multiple hits (2-for-3) in the game.
The Firestorm will remain on the road, as they take on the Vanguard Lions in a three-game set next Friday and Saturday in Costa Mesa, California. ACU returns home on February 13th and 14th for a three-game set against The Master's College Mustangs.
